Personal Training FAQs - Bellevue & Redmond
Most people who reach out to bStrong have similar questions - especially if they're new to strength training or getting back into a routine. These are the most common ones we hear about training, scheduling, pricing, and what it's actually like to get started.

Do you offer a trial?
Yes. We offer a $99 three-week trial at our Bellevue and Redmond locations so you can experience the coaching before committing. It includes a consultation call, an Intro / Ramp Up session, 6 coached Small Group Personal Training workouts, an InBody body composition scan, and practical nutrition resources.
Do I need to be in shape to start?
Not at all. Most of our members are beginners or returning after time off. Every workout is scaled to your current ability - you'll feel challenged and supported, not overwhelmed or out of place.
How does Small Group Personal Training work?
Each person follows a full-body program with their own weights, targets, and progression plan. A coach guides the entire session in real time - watching your form, adjusting your weights, and giving you specific feedback. Groups stay small (typically 2-6 people) so you get real coaching, not just a group class.
What's the difference between Small Group Personal Training and 1-on-1 training?
Small Group Personal Training is coached and individualized, but in a small group setting. It's our most popular option and typically more affordable than 1-on-1. If you have a complex injury history, very specific performance goals, or prefer a fully private setting, 1-on-1 training is available at our Bellevue locations.
How often should I train to see progress?
Two to three times per week is the right starting point for most people. That's enough to build real strength and make consistent progress while allowing adequate recovery. You don't need to train every day - you need to train consistently.
How much coaching do I actually get during workouts?
A lot more than a typical group fitness class. Your coach is on the floor the entire session - demoing movements, adjusting your form, modifying exercises if something doesn't feel right, and tracking your weights session to session. You're never guessing what to do or whether you're doing it correctly.
Is there a long-term contract?
No. We offer flexible memberships and a 3-week trial with no long-term commitment required.Yes. How Training Works
-
Every session runs 50 minutes and follows the same structure: movement prep to get your body ready, two strength circuits building on your tracked weights from previous sessions, and a conditioning finisher. Your coach leads the entire session from start to finish.text goes here
-
Yes - this describes most of our members. Many people join in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, often returning after years away from training or starting for the first time. The program is designed to meet you where you are and build from there.
-
Before your first regular workout you'll have the option to do an Intro / Ramp Up session - a lower-intensity introduction to the key movements and the gym environment. Your first few weeks are about learning the patterns, finding your starting weights, and building confidence. Coaches expect you to feel unfamiliar at first. That's exactly what the onboarding is designed for.
-
Athletic clothing and shoes you can move in, and a water bottle. We provide all equipment, towels, and everything else you need. Arrive 5-10 minutes early for your first session so your coach can introduce you to the space.
-
We're not a CrossFit affiliate. Both are strength and conditioning focused with functional movements like squats and deadlifts. The key differences: no leaderboards or competition, no Olympic lifts, smaller and more structured groups, and a consistent emphasis on coached progression rather than randomness. Read our full CrossFit vs. bStrong breakdown.
-
Our workouts are personal training in a group setting - not a group fitness class. Your weights, reps, and progress are tracked individually. You get specific coaching and feedback every session. Groups are intentionally kept small. There's no shared equipment, no one-size-fits-all intensity, and no one moving you through a circuit on a timer regardless of how you're moving. Read our Orangetheory comparison and F45 comparison.
-
Yes. Movements, weights, range of motion, and intensity are all adjusted in real time based on how you're moving and feeling. If you have a specific injury, limitation, or goal, mention it in your consultation call and your coach will factor it into every session.
-
We work with all types of injuries and limitations - with medical clearance where appropriate. Knee issues, back pain, hip or shoulder limitations, wrist problems - coaches adjust movements to work around what you have while still making meaningful progress. If your situation requires very close individual attention, 1-on-1 training may be the better fit.
-
Yes. Members join for different reasons - fat loss, building strength, feeling more capable, having more energy, or just getting back to consistent movement. Our program is strength-focused, which supports all of those goals. Strength training builds and preserves muscle, which affects body composition, metabolism, and how you feel day to day.
-
Yes. Strength training is particularly important for people on GLP-1 medications like Ozempic or Wegovy - it helps preserve muscle mass during the weight loss process, which directly affects long-term results. Workouts are fully scaled to your current level. Read more about strength training and GLP-1 medications.
COACHING & PERSONALIZATION
-
All coaches are certified by nationally recognized organizations, many hold degrees in exercise science or related fields, and every coach goes through extensive training before leading sessions. Meet the team.
-
Your weights are recorded every session so you always have a clear target when a movement comes back. Your coach knows what you lifted last time and will give you a starting point for each exercise. Progress is tracked over time so you can see how far you've come - not just how hard a given session felt.
-
That's the most common feeling people have before their first session - and it usually disappears within a workout or two. The environment is intentionally welcoming and non-competitive. Groups are small. Your coach knows it's your first time and will make sure you know what to do at every step. Most people who were nervous say they wish they'd started sooner.
-
For highly specific performance goals - competitive athletics, sport-specific training, rehabilitation from surgery - 1-on-1 training gives you the dedicated attention those situations require. For general strength, body composition, energy, and consistency, Small Group Personal Training is a strong fit for almost everyone.
